In the case of a disaster like a large storm or earthquake it can be terrifying not knowing where your loved ones are or knowing if everyone is okay. Right after a disaster the phone systems can become overwhelmed and fail making it difficult to get a hold of loved ones or to get information about what to do in an emergency.

It is important to have phone numbers and other important information written down so that you can still contact those you need even if your phone’s battery is dead or it has been damaged. To help avoid the influx of calls after an emergency it is great to have a designated person out of the area for family to call and check in with. That person will be able to communicate better if they are outside of the emergency center then those where the issue has happened.
